Nutritional Therapy FAQs

About Nutritional Therapy

What’s the difference between a nutritionist and a nutritional therapist?

Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. A Registered Nutritional Therapist has accredited qualifications, follows a professional code of ethics, and is registered with recognised professional bodies.

What is nutritional therapy?

Nutritional therapy is a personalised approach that looks at the underlying factors contributing to symptoms and health concerns. It combines nutrition, lifestyle support, and where appropriate, functional testing to help support overall health and wellbeing.

I work alongside your existing medical care and do not diagnose or treat medical conditions.

Do you practise functional medicine?

I’m not a Functional Medicine practitioner, but I use many functional medicine principles when assessing symptoms, health history, nutrition, lifestyle, and potential root causes.

What is personalised nutrition?

Personalised nutrition means your recommendations are tailored specifically to you. Rather than following generic advice, your plan is based on your symptoms, goals, medical history, lifestyle, preferences, and any relevant test results.

Can I book a one-off consultation?

Yes. The Nutrition MOT and Comprehensive Health & Nutrition Assessment are designed for standalone support. However, for more complex or long-term concerns, ongoing support is usually more effective.

Do you offer online consultations?

Yes. Most appointments take place online via video call, so you can work with me from anywhere.

Ad hoc in-person appointments are also be available at Clinic 124 in Whitstable, Kent.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, payment plans are available for the Foundation and Signature Plans.

How much support will I receive between sessions?

This depends on the service you choose. My plans include ongoing support between consultations, as well as personalised recommendations and review of your progress.

Testing, Supplements & Medication

Do I need functional testing?

No. Testing is always optional. Where appropriate, I may recommend functional testing or suggest speaking with your GP about certain tests.

What types of testing do you use?

Depending on your case, this may include blood, stool, saliva, urine, hormone, or nutrigenomics testing.

Will I need supplements?

Not necessarily. Recommendations are always personalised, and I prioritise food-first approaches where appropriate. If supplements are recommended, I’ll explain why they may be helpful and prioritise them based on your goals and budget.

I’m taking medication. Can I still work with you?

Yes. I always check for potential drug-nutrient interactions before making supplement recommendations.

Practical Questions

Will I have to completely change my diet?

No. I focus on realistic, sustainable changes that fit your lifestyle, preferences, and routine.

What if I can’t cook?

That’s absolutely fine. Recommendations are designed to work in real life, and I can provide simple meal ideas and practical strategies.

How will I know if the plan is working?

We track progress through symptoms, energy, digestion, mood, sleep, skin, and other health markers relevant to your goals.

Is this suitable for men as well as women?

Yes. I work with both men and women.

Can teenagers or children work with you?

Yes, although a parent or guardian must attend appointments for anyone under 18.

Scope of Practice & Safety

Are you a doctor?

No. I’m a Registered Nutritional Therapist with a BSc (Hons) in Nutritional Science and a Diploma in Personalised Nutrition Practice.

Can you diagnose or treat medical conditions?

No. Nutritional therapy does not replace medical care. I provide nutrition and lifestyle support alongside your healthcare team.

Are there any conditions you cannot work with?

Yes. Certain conditions fall outside my scope of practice, including active eating disorders, cancer, and chronic kidney disease. If you’re unsure whether I can support you, please book a discovery call.
